I’m on my way to Vermont and it’s easy to see from the flora along the roadsides that we haven’t yet had a frost – in years past, we have had frosts at Labor Day, or in early September. I love seeing these morning glories, called “heavenly blue” in my seed catalog, and they’re still blooming gloriously here and there. As people seem endlessly to quip these days, there is an upside to global warming. But I think we’re increasingly aware that the downsides are going to be all too apparent before long. At least that’s what I imagine. From the numbers of tourists in the region – it’s New England and October leaf season, though of course the color change is delayed, too, by the warm weather we’ve had – crowding the highway rest areas, one wouldn’t guess that the world is changing, too.
